Elon Musk, the FAA, and a Tragic Plane Crash: The Unraveling of American Aviation Safety

By Javar Juarez (CUBNSC) Washington, D.C. - The recent plane crash over Washington, D.C., is a catastrophe that should anger every American. The root causes of this disaster lie not only in federal mismanagement but also in the unchecked influence of Elon Musk, who has been using our federal government as his personal playground while endangering public safety. The former FAA director had grounded SpaceX due to serious safety concerns, and now he’s gone. That is the real story here.

The administration’s response to the crash has been as chaotic as its governance. In a bizarre display, President Donald Trump addressed reporters with a rambling, profanity-laced monologue, displaying none of the solemnity expected in times of national tragedy. Rather than offering condolences or visiting the crash site—a location just minutes from his residence—Trump scoffed at the notion, dismissing the idea with a sneering remark about swimming in the Potomac.

But his most egregious moment? Blaming the crash on diversity. That’s right—while bodies were still being pulled from the icy river, Trump suggested that hiring non-white professionals must have contributed to the disaster.

Meanwhile, his newly appointed Secretary of Transportation, Sean Duffy—an ex-reality TV star with no relevant qualifications—stood at a press conference in an FAA jacket, leading many to believe he was running the agency. When asked point-blank about the current FAA director, Duffy simply walked away. The chilling reality? As of the morning of the crash, there was no acting FAA director.

FAA administrators are appointed for five-year terms to ensure continuity across administrations. However, on Inauguration Day, the head of the FAA abruptly resigned. Why? Because he had dared to challenge Elon Musk’s reckless handling of SpaceX.

Two weeks before this devastating crash, Musk’s massive Starship rocket malfunctioned, exploding midair and scattering debris over a vast area. The fallout was so severe that commercial flights from major airlines—including Delta, JetBlue, American, and even a FedEx cargo plane—had to be diverted. In response, the FAA grounded SpaceX’s operations. Musk, enraged, took to social media, demanding the FAA chief’s resignation. He got his wish. Three days later, the former administrator Mike Whitaker was gone. Ten days later, a horrific midair collision occurred.

This was no coincidence.

Trump and Musk systematically dismantled aviation safety oversight, putting profits and ego above public welfare. They gutted key safety committees, froze hiring at the FAA, and pushed employees out with an underfunded buyout scheme. Just 24 hours before the deadly crash, another near-miss took place—an eerie warning that was ignored.

The Cover-Up Begins

Now, Trump’s administration is in full-blown panic mode. Desperate to distance themselves from the catastrophe, they are scrambling for scapegoats. But the receipts tell a different story.

In April 2019, under Trump’s watch, the FAA launched an ill-planned program to hire disabled air traffic controllers—a move made not out of genuine inclusion but to deflect from the administration’s broader incompetence in aviation management. This attempt at a diversity narrative is now being twisted to obscure the real issue: the reckless gutting of an essential federal agency.

Let’s be clear: This tragedy is the result of corruption and gross mismanagement at the highest levels. Elon Musk and Donald Trump prioritized personal gain over public safety, and dozens of Americans paid the ultimate price.

The question now is, will we hold them accountable?
